Inmates pick up broken pieces

Of a boat carrying migrants to shore

Broken dreams of families not realized

Behind bars in a wood shop

Pick up a sliver trying to deliver

A violin with strings that sing

Or an oar to make a cello

Back in the hell of a prison cell

Putting a boat back together

Boat now making music

singing immigrant dreams

Off the coast of Italy

Italian prisoner makes musical dreams

To call attention to immigration

Lose dreams in the crush of keeping out
