African American Man

African American Man

Hey there African American man takin' a walk tonight.
Don't you know the police will get you cuz what you doin' there ain't right?
They're gonna come harass you,
it's their way.
You know they just can't leave you be.
Hey there African American man
have we learned from history?

Hey there African American man,
what'chu up to bet no good?
Watched and labeled by many folks
the ones who never understood.
You're searchin' for a break-in,
you're dealin' drugs.
Here come the car now lights aglow.
Hey there African American man
it's time for them to start the show.

“What we got here? What ya doin' out?”
There goes a white boy down the walk.
Search ya up against the police car,
don't ya know that they just wanna talk?
Might be they have to cuff you,
maybe tase,
then they haul your ass downtown.
Hey there African American man
I didn't know you wuz a clown.

Hey there African American man
do you think it'll ever end?
Seems to me that society turns her head away to pretend.
Better in some ways other ways not.
So said all is equally.
Hey there African American man
do ya think we'll ever see?

Hey there African American man how was that night-time walk?
Don't you know when it comes to yours the policemen well they like to stalk?
You can say it isn't fair and you're right
still being judged by your body's skin.
Hey there African American man
can we ever make it right again?
