Indolence Banished

Rote simplicity
Begets complicity
Languorous spirits
Inhabit the mind
Whisper melancholic secrets
Obtuse apathy
Mental atrophy
End stage vacuous grind

Mindfully seeing
Fatefully freeing
Psychic visions
Life unbound
Unknown courage from God
Against the current
Overcame deterrent
Expansive horizons beyond

Author's Note
This was written for someone I worked with for twenty years but not yet given.  She was one of the very few in whom I confided my consideration of driving off the bridge instead of completing the commute on occasion.  Those days are behind me, for good I hope.  I found her honest, opinionated and sometimes a pain in the ass.  I love her as a friend and owe a debt of gratitude.  The concept of the poem was inspired by Keats' "Ode on Indolence."  I was looking to see what Keats had written on the subject of youth and found indolence instead.  It was perfect for this other project, so I stole the idea.
