Te Te Te TENNESSEE

Te Te Te TENNESSEE

This is the land where we come from
Democracy dyin in the Sun
Run for a seat and get elected

Stand in the well and get ejected
Just for standing with the people

Who put me in place
decided my race
Te Te Te Tennessee

Little justice for me if I live in Tennessee
Injustice killin our babies
God forbid if I stand up

Rising sun of Tennessee
Democracy dies in the valley

This will not stand in the Sun
9 yrs old and in a pine box

Seems like Te Te Te Tennessee
Is in the news for all the wrong reasons

It just dies in the shadows
When we look away don’t pay
Attention to yesterday

Te Te Te Tennessee
Sounds so sweet to me

Lift your eyes see the sad surprise
Te Te Te Tennessee is fading away

Young hearts rise no more lies
Tennessee is the new south
Democracy dies in shadows

140000 people with no representation
Te te te Tennessee
Shackles of slavery

See the blood on the trees
Te te te Tennessee
Isn’t so sweet to me

Author's Note
Remember when three members of the Tn.legislature were kicked out for standing up about gun violence in light of the Covenant school shooting. Well, two black representatives were kicked out, the third survived because she was white.
