Wounds not Seen
Wounds Not seen
The wounds no one sees
In a bunker shaking and shivering
Hear the blast that will change me forever
Wake up in a hospital coming out of a coma
I’m groggy but it’s becoming clear
That I am not the same person
Before I signed up for this
And I have kids and a dog
Out of the fog of war I realize I’m still here
But I’m half a person lost my shoulder and arm
And cut at the knees
So I get back home and I tease my kids
Get my tennis shoes so I can run with you
On a snowy Christmas morning i wake up
Open my presents and smile
I pull out some wool grey socks so I know
My kids are in on the joke of my life
Across the town a man much younger
Is in the same place as me but not the same
He is handsome and strong but something
Is going on in his head
He can stand and run with his kids
But he is dealing with the wounds
That can’t be seen
Serve for the country but don’t forget about them
Serve their country but I don’t forget and I profess my allegiance to them
The wounds no one sees but
They are still there glaring in
The deep recesses of my mind
The wounds that no one sees
Don’t forget about us
The wounds no one sees
In a bunker shaking and shivering
Hear the blast that will change me forever
Wake up in a hospital coming out of a coma
I’m groggy but it’s becoming clear
That I am not the same person
Before I signed up for this
And I have kids and a dog
Out of the fog of war I realize I’m still here
But I’m half a person lost my shoulder and arm
And cut at the knees
So I get back home and I tease my kids
Get my tennis shoes so I can run with you
On a snowy Christmas morning i wake up
Open my presents and smile
I pull out some wool grey socks so I know
My kids are in on the joke of my life
Across the town a man much younger
Is in the same place as me but not the same
He is handsome and strong but something
Is going on in his head
He can stand and run with his kids
But he is dealing with the wounds
That can’t be seen
Serve for the country but don’t forget about them
Serve their country but I don’t forget and I profess my allegiance to them
The wounds no one sees but
They are still there glaring in
The deep recesses of my mind
The wounds that no one sees
Don’t forget about us
