What Kind of Gods
How must it feel
when the will to live subsides
when death no longer terrifies
and hope fades slowly
beyond the cage of time
Is that how peace arrives
or do untold demons wait
snarling war on errant souls
to snuff out dreams
for fools like me
convinced of logic's crime
And why so many
who crave redemption
are born to question
illusion's brittle fate
when fickle truth relies
on threat of hell
or thrill of heaven's bait
What kind of gods
did we make?
when the will to live subsides
when death no longer terrifies
and hope fades slowly
beyond the cage of time
Is that how peace arrives
or do untold demons wait
snarling war on errant souls
to snuff out dreams
for fools like me
convinced of logic's crime
And why so many
who crave redemption
are born to question
illusion's brittle fate
when fickle truth relies
on threat of hell
or thrill of heaven's bait
What kind of gods
did we make?
