Stones & Bridges

In stories written by memory's shadows,
I wander through nightly echoes.
Laughter lingers, sweet & bittersweet,
Of a bond once strong, now forever incomplete.

I yearn to bridge across the divide,
To speak the words left hurting inside.
Your name still dances on the tip of my tongue,
A melody, of love for you, my heart once sung.

If only time could rewind the clock,
Your heart wouldn't need to hide behind a lock.
Instead, here I stand, for a moment, lost in the past,
Longing for a friendship and lover that couldn’t last.

Some stones skip to the shore, others sink. Ours sunk when the bridge gave way.

This one was written when thinking about someone I lost years ago: time freaking flies.
Even if I never cross that bridge with him again...
I hope both of us can one day love as reckless and wild as we did then.
Right person, wrong time? Wrong person, wrong everything?
You know who you are and, yes, I miss you. No, I don't plan on reaching out (but you can).
