Nature Speaks

Rain fell before dawn
Cleansing
Purifying
Catalyst of growth
Symbol of prophesy

Stepping out
Startled by a hawk's cry
Loud and nearby
Screeching seven times
eight times
seven times
The distance answering five

Seven is the symbol of spirit, sustenance, and struggle

Eight like a ladder
Reveals the ability to rise
And go beyond nature
The realm of infinite possibilities

Seven is the symbol of spirit, sustenance, and struggle.

Five meaning, Lo, Behold!

Swooping
From the woods across the road
Wings out stretched
To land in the lowest left branch of the pine
At the end of my drive

I heard an owl hoot in the distance.

Fluttering
The hawk then flew to the lowest branch on the right
Then rested immobile to my sight
After a moment a second hawk flew by
Over the tree tops of the yard, on the right

Watchful, waiting, minutes passed
Another hawk flew across the road
Landing atop the pine
Hidden from view
Whether the second or a third
I never knew

Watching the first
Wind rider
Spirit brother
I asked for help with second sight
The hawk was silent for several minutes
Then cried seven times.

Seven is the symbol of spirit, sustenance, and struggle

I heard the distant owl a second time.

It was early
After a rain
And all the while
A pitter patter of drops from leaf to leaf
Though the sky now was mostly blue
Looked up from beneath a sweet gum tree
A rain drop fell in my left eye

Again I watched the hawk
Perched
Waiting
Watching me
A leaf fell to my left
Not common in August
But the heat will take a toll

Spiraling
The end of a cycle
Transformation
A new beginning

The hawk screeched eleven times
and seven times minutes later

Eleven contains all the possibilities of containing
Building
And forming all existence
Seven is the symbol of spirit, struggle, and sustenance

Finally, I had to leave,
Said my goodbyes
And got in my car and drove off
The hawk cried out ten times
Then five
As I rounded the bend in the road

Ten represents the power of the spirit to govern and guide the matter
Five, meaning Lo, Behold!

I passed a red bird on a mail box to my right
