What Was Once My Reflection
Once, in summers lush embrace,
I gazed into your eyes,
And in those glacial azures,
I saw my own reflection,
Now, as winter's frost bites ever deeper,
I search your eyes for any remorse,
And in those frightful snowstorms,
I see the void that has grown between us,
Once, when I spoke to you,
I heard warm platonic love,
In the wildflower meadow,
And we smiled, we laughed,
Now, when I come to you,
I hear the frost of the blizzard that surrounds
us,
On the wretched mountain summits,
That we found ourselves on,
And I'll push and struggle to break away,
But something's desperately pulling me to you,
A magnet of a memory,
A poisoned sentimentality,
And I'll cling on despite the agony,
The wretched, tooth grating pain,
And I look into your glacial azures,
To see not the child that was,
But the monster it has become.
I gazed into your eyes,
And in those glacial azures,
I saw my own reflection,
Now, as winter's frost bites ever deeper,
I search your eyes for any remorse,
And in those frightful snowstorms,
I see the void that has grown between us,
Once, when I spoke to you,
I heard warm platonic love,
In the wildflower meadow,
And we smiled, we laughed,
Now, when I come to you,
I hear the frost of the blizzard that surrounds
us,
On the wretched mountain summits,
That we found ourselves on,
And I'll push and struggle to break away,
But something's desperately pulling me to you,
A magnet of a memory,
A poisoned sentimentality,
And I'll cling on despite the agony,
The wretched, tooth grating pain,
And I look into your glacial azures,
To see not the child that was,
But the monster it has become.
