water under the bridge
Whatever happened is water under the bridge. Burn the damn
bridge and forget the past, he whispered.—Carolyn Brown
i do not want to whisper anymore,
of things done in the dark that dread the light;
nocturnal robes may make the wrong seem right,
whose decadence cuts to the very core.
i do not want to whimper anymore,
o’er painful attitudes that irk the soul
or recklessness no brute force can control,
though pressed to death against fate's iron door.
i do not want to prove you anymore,
whose desperation gives me trifling pause
to measure you against life’s nobler cause,
though i am rediminshed with the poor.
i do not want to love you anymore,
lest by love’s ‘wisdom’ i should be time’s fool.
water under the bridge may passions cool
but for blind men succumbed to death’s allure.
