The Legend of the Tattered Flag

It was a stormy winter's eve
the night it all came to a head
The Pacific northwest at war
with the upper Midwest it's said
Twas fought upon the grid iron
11 on 12 so it seems
A one sided game to the end?
Not even in your wildest dreams

At full staff, flailing miles above
a fight between Gayle and her rag
Born atop of the Space Needle
“The Legend of the Tattered Flag”
Poised upon the battle below
an entire nation bated its breath
Green and gold versus blue and green
losers season sentenced to death

Their leader had but 1 good knee
still he answered the battle cry
12s all watched in disbelief
as these boys all refused to die
Luck and the tide turned with the wind
These modern day gladiators
Meanwhile the flag ruffled taut
looked prey for the alligators
