A Different Path

The path began to widen and turn,
Venturing down the gravel I was alone,
Many began to pass along,
While I hummed a tune,
Singing an unknown song.

As I nodded to the passerby,
I realized I must say goodbye,
The former ideals,
Outdated beliefs and ordeals,
Picking up my pace I looked to the sky.

A bewildered notion swept into my mind,
Where was I going?
And why?
Such changes Iím undergoing.

This I did know to be fact,
My mind was now intact,
The painful flooding of water from my eyes,
While a smile remained an easy disguise,
The thoughts I held,
And feelings perpetual,
Unbelief and pain swelled,
This agony became habitual.

The road continued as I left things behind,
Personal hatred and void of connection,
Not wanting those people mustíve been retribution,
For many years my heart twas blind,
My origin and roots now a dissolution.

They never knew me,
That I believe,
Painfully I tried to help them see,
The creativity and compassion,
No use to them,
They held no satisfaction.

With my bootlaces strapped,
A satchel on my back,
My body began to hasten,
With them much time I wasted.
I shook my head attempting to change my thoughts,
What was taught by them,
It was completely false.

Not an easy choice or journey,
I persisted with worry,
I carried on nevertheless,
Happiness I desired,
I must confess.

Their faces faded in the distance,
I could no longer make out blurry images,
The light above me was shining brightly,
I held myself together so tightly.

No matter the distortions they favored,
I would now be known as wayward,
I failed to agree with their rituals and schemes,
Now I am building a life based on my dreams.
