SUPER

clark
didn't always want to change clothes
in a phone booth
bumping around in that hot little box
didn't like wearing goddamn tights
thought the cape was stupid
craved kryptonite like some crave chocolate
hated flying
and was just goddamn sick of running every time some creepy asshole
showed out
and he remembered that time he flew counter clockwise
so fast he turned back time
and he just wished he could've kept flying,
kept turning it back
until he was back on the planet Krypton
gazing up at his mama -- his real mama --
and was just plain old clark
or whatever the fuck his name was back then
and his mama was stroking his ordinary baby hair
and him just being there, nestled in her arms
was enough to please her
and...well... just
goddamn

Author's Note
I started a poem with the line "kindness is my superpower" about how my inherent tendencies toward empathy and sympathy have at times just about ruined my life, and this was the best of it so far.
