Ode to the Vase (A Satire and Irony)

An ode to the vase
Handywork emptiness

A vessel that is hollow
Adorned and bejeweled

Reflecting shiny outside
Gleaming and glimmering

Timely crafting
Many hearty details and etchings

Its earthen shape
Origins in dust

Worth less than water
Filling nothing

To hold up the surface
Weak and frail framework

Inside its spaced reinforcement
A self-sustaining void

Outside sitting placed down
Purposely on the vanity

Dimensions cube
On the plane, In the room, in a village

Now forgotten in a moment
Its balancing close to the edge

With wind comes gushing through
Toppling it over tumbling

A crashing and pieces dash
Laying scattered on the ground

Never to be put back together
Once made from pride and glory

Piercing dried shards
Broom sweeping

Casting away disintegrated
A matter never again

Author's Note
This is mainly about selfish nature and pride, and where it will get you. Exaltation of self, and/or the works of hands, is really just an empty promise. We're here for a short time, we die, 200 years from then, we're forgotten, and that's just the way it is. I guess some people find that as an excuse to get wrapped up in vanity, but it really is an empty pursuit, and that's what I was going for here. This is just a different angle of emotion, an attempt to capture the frustration of people not knowing anything about truth or purpose. The irony and satire are that the celebration of life really is null and void. The "beauty" of the vase is temporary, and so is human life. No matter what wealth you put into it, or how hard of work, or time spent, it still comes to an end, over time.
