The Lady Blue (Wedding Bells)
The next morning, I didn't get home until 7:00 a.m. I knew Joe would most likely be up having his morning coffee. I was afraid to go inside because I knew he was going to confront me about my staying out all night. I knew Joe would be upset but I didn't see what was about to happen.
As soon as I got inside, I saw that he was putting his belongings in a big box that he'd place on the floor next to his favorite chair.
"Where you been all night?" He asked, but before I could answer, he raised one hand to stop me, then said. "No. Don't tell me. Let me guess. You were at the club with Maupin screwing all night "
"I'm so sorry," I said approaching him. "You didn't deserve being treated like that."
"I know you've been sneaking around with your other man all along. But staying out all night? Where do you get off doing that? I'd like to know."
I stood there with a gapping mouth as I saw Joe put his saxophone in the box and then pick t up.
"I never meant to hurt you," I said as Joe went to the door to leave.
"You never loved me either. Just go to hell." I stood there watching him leave. I hated to see things end this way but I guess I had it coming.
As soon as Joe was out of my life, Gary moved his belongings in.
Now, about the wedding! It went off without a hitch and I couldn't have been happier being Mrs. Gary Maupin! That is until he opened his mouth that morning.
"You're coming up in the world, he said teasingly, "You've just gone from homewrecker to homemaker." I knew Gary was trying to be funny but his joke failed miserably.
"That's not even funny, Gary."
Sometimes, he just acts like an ass and this was one of them. I didn't say it out loud but I sure was thinking it!
