The Lady Blue (Making Up)

Gary and I were back together in no time at all. He said he couldn't stand being without me anymore. Of course, I was ecstatic!
What happened was that he started asking me to have a drink with him in his office after my final set. Things started steaming up between us once again.

One night, we started fooling around and ended up making love on his desk. It was  around this time Gary and Carol started having some really serious martial problems and he started sleeping nights on the office sofa. He told me they were constantly fighting and he saw divorce in their future. I knew people were gossiping about me and Gary's relationship. While I didn't think it was anyone's business  I  still worried that I'd be seen as a homewrecker if the two of them split up. Oh, well, I knew I couldn't control what other people thought of me and quickly dismissed the thought.

It was not too long afterwards, Joe Racine came onto the scene. He strolled into The Lady Blue that night with his saxophone under one arm, a lighted cigarette dangling from his lips. He had blond hair, his bangs all long and hanging down to the left side of his face. I was taken aback by his stunning blue eyes.

He asked if he could play along with the band that night and after the show we let him join the band. After all, he was the best damn sax player any of us had ever heard.

Joe and I clicked from the start. He liked cracking jokes and making me laugh. I could tell he wanted to get close to me and I was right. He flirted away right under Gary's nose. It  caused me distress when Gary started taking shots at Joe saying things like, "Joe should keep his tongue off the floor and Joe should look out if he wanted to keep his job."
Joe ignored Gary's remarks and continued working hard at breaking up things between me and Gary.
