Image for the poem Silky Shield

Silky Shield

strong and tall the barrier stand
as soft as love resilient as steel
guards my heart from falls and spills
a wire around to hold all still

holding away from fear and pain
shields held up against all sorrow
no heartaches or cuts to attend
protected from any forms of disdain

Within this fortress I reside
smiling with love from the other side
to live and yearn is better yet
than to hurt when love's unreturned

left behind in love and joy
forever wrapped in self care
to never let emotions destroy
the careful shields against love's glare

tear it down will I not
I risk not to be hurt
let me be safe and sound
not go through it all again
