Abuse and today
Mick told us "she was running
for the shelter of mother's little
helper".
Couldn't think of a more sad sight
Only way of coping through the night
My own experience limited
To tea bags in the attic
Nothing was really static
Just gave me a headache
Smoking tea bags just didn't take
Now we know some of the mystics
Look for a spiritual awareness
Herb part of the routine
But for someone not of age
What does taking drugs really mean
Stunted growth maybe?
We can gave warnings all day long
Not much a deterrent
But pointing a finger and saying "wrong"
Doesn't seem to be working
Creates more wonder lust
Another plan is must
And what about the hypocrisy
When stats are released
Deaths involving drunk driving
A most legal addictive beast
So we tell youth they can't smoke
While adults may have legal fixes...
I have no idea how I would handle
Substance abuse if I had kids
One thing for sure
There wouldn't be a lid
On being truthful about it all
Follow the path my parents laid
With sports, music, and my studies
Never saw drugs as an aid
But in my observations in the classroom
I really do find many more absent parents
Can we really be so blind
To people not acting like adults
Expected to nurture these babes
Become society's problems
Oh calamity that is made
for the shelter of mother's little
helper".
