The Human Hourglass

how much dust are we
an accumulation of experiences
shifting listlessly down
drowning...dreaming from
birth to death & whatever time lies in between
isms and possibilities
measured by our moments only
mirroring hopes of true transcendence
achievements are merely a bonus
in the grand scheme of things
icing on the perfect cake
maybe the muse of a condensed lifetime
so long as we don't idle
on that human hamster wheel
letting it overbake
putting the call on hold
gravity falls & we're meant to rise
beyond the sight of eyes
yet here we go
the migrating redundant ones
living the constant slide
three steps forward...four steps back
eyes focused on the wrong things
funneled through a haze of familiar future-past tunnels
unable to see the glass constraining our ass
warped in hues of Deja vu
like a time capsule
the rapture engulfs us again and again
we're captured by life
our quintessence filtered at crossroads
seconds dropping slowly away
strained through the pains of humanity
until we're sucked through the drain
narrowing thoughts
all of those somethings sought
all those endless self righteous fights fought
no more than items on a list
deeded and documented as
grains of our sand fading to dust
when every fragment has finally fallen...what's left
except that which is bereft of imagination
