They were identical twins and beautiful
they shared secrets,
they shared lovers,
they shared clothes,
they shared the automobile,
they shared needles,
they shared their horrifying near death experiences,
they shared the emergency room,
they shared a wake & funeral,
they now share the same plot and gravestone.

Sad poem, my friend.
One of the saddest things I’ve seen was my high school friend’s sister’s wake. When my friend ran to the casket in a moment of anguish and grabbed her sister and hugged her, I broke down and ran out of there. They were identical twins. Your poem reminded me of that.

Psychologically speaking breaking away from familiarity and formed habitual tendencies is quite difficult, it has to be trained and practiced.
