Ready, Set, Let Go (repost)

The past
Get past your past they say
The sense that everything is not quite right
Do I know?
Lost memories
Fluttering breath
Dark circles
She never sleeps they say
The overwhelming fear that I will be found out
Begin to sleep
Breath slows
Paralyzed †
Eyes darting
Resigned breath
I understand I always say †
The two words I have come to despise
The two words I use to let people off the hook when they decide that my behavior is more than they can handle †
The phrase that renders no response
The two words that give myself permission to accept that being alone in this world is better than being in any relationship where I am not loved unconditionally for who I am
Close my eyes
Exhale slowly
Let go

I showed this poem to someone very special to me tonight to explain why I will never require him to tell me ďI understand.Ē I used to apologize for having a traumatic past, medical issues, sleep paralysis, and anything else I felt would alienate me from others.
Life hands us obstacles all the time. We learn to overcome them when we cease compromising ourselves for the satisfaction of others and begin to stand in the light of our authenticity.
