I DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT

I don't have the right
to do only what I want;
to hurt your feelings
or treat you like a misfit.

I don't have the right
to do my own thing;
I want to consider your feelings
and make your heart sing.

I don't have the right
to withhold forgiveness,
or wag at your mistakes
love doesn't act on impulsiveness.

I don't have the right
to turn my back on you;
love that is truly real
will feel as you feel.

I don't have the right
to give you less than my best;
each action and each word
Is part of love's test.

I don't have the right
because I don't want the right,
meet me at the Kissing Place
so I can have the right to hold you tight.
