Burning in Eternal Pain

From the depths of my mind's gallows,
I unfurl a memory of you today.
When I beheld you last, tears cascading,
You turned, departing with a melancholy ballet.

Years have ebbed since that moment,
Yet the raw pain endures within.
A snapshot of you, with tresses adrift,
Capturing the melancholy that day had been.

Why do we love, only to part ways,
Leaving behind a haunting ache?
Why isn't love an eternal flame,
Bound beyond mortal life's forsake?

Humans, flawed celestial wanderers,
Destined to err on this earthly plane.
Mistakes needn't sever our shared fate,
Bound, come what may, an unbroken chain.

Return to me, beloved of my heart,
Through the silent passage of years.
Into my arms, where your essence belongs,
Reclaim the love that transcends temporal fears.

Author's Note
Parting ways can inflict pain upon both parties involved. Yet, there are moments when one contemplates, wishing for a deeper understanding, thinking, "If only I could comprehend her more, perhaps... perhaps... perhaps... the anguish would be different."
