Your Hair is Not a Brownie

It is said,
that in any relationship
-or even interaction-
between two individuals,
one is the teacher,
and one is the student.

When I told my stylist
of my heat setting of 330 degrees
to flat iron my hair
she said that was fine,
but not to go any hotter.

Brownies bake at 350
she reminded me.

Your hair is not a brownie.

Handing me a mirror
to view my lowlights from the back
she nodded sagely
My own stylist told me that when I was 12.

And now dear reader,
my student,

you have been taught as well.
