Starfish are very versatile
Humans are often weak
Starfish have a placid lifestyle
One of which we never speak

They're free to do as they please
Without any rhyme nor reason
Drifting through the seven seas
Never to suffer horrific treason

What kills us so violently
They manage to survive
Our minds, traitors, stalk silently
They have none; so they thrive

What leaves us so broken
To the starfish is a game
But they donít end up unbroken
For this they will gain their fame

Like a little modern hydra
Of a much less vicious sort
Loosing just a little paraphernalia
Itís arms the starfish must abort

The part of it that it looses
So that it can become free
We humans are left with† bruises
Left by being naive and insecurity

Every day the starfish stars anew
Free from worry, free from woe
To such luxuries we bid adieu
†Leading ourselves to the gallows

Not for one moment can we regret
Our greatest curse; or our blessing
We pay to this world a higher debt
A price paid for all of our guessing

We claim that we are free
But that's almost a lie
Within the harsh reality
We're free to live or fee to die
