undiminished horizons

do you remember who you were
before the murky fog settled in
smudging your vibrant canvas
days that blurred & obscured
stumbling one into the other
until light slowly fades
and you finally forget...
...how you once lit the skies with your fire
how your passion was so great...
...your body couldn't contain it
when words had the impact of stilettos on concrete
...like gunshots in the night
...they slayed
so fucking alive
wearing your verse like a veil
gossamer & lace lined with titanium
even in weakness you were defiant
...indefinable
...indescribable
a giant in your frail flesh
before frailty overcame
...if only in your own mind...
shrinking one life blow at a time
until such staggering heights...
...no longer seemed attainable
still...reaching as high as you dare
remember...
...who you were...
...is still there
