Killer Role
Sunlight beams benignly on the wall
as I raise up yet another stone,
and set it carefully, so no fall
could disgrace, or make my bones to groan.
The red rust stains, mostly hidden,
the old dry-stone wall, again is whole,
a spot where flesh and steel had driven
it, to accept its killer role...
as I raise up yet another stone,
and set it carefully, so no fall
could disgrace, or make my bones to groan.
The red rust stains, mostly hidden,
the old dry-stone wall, again is whole,
a spot where flesh and steel had driven
it, to accept its killer role...
