Anatomy of a sole

Most humans your age
don't know what it is
walking away from
something they
loved doing

how much a kick
in the teeth it is
accepting lower
than you fiercely
provided before,

they don't know
each torment you
have gone through
to survive another
day living outside
the outskirts of
everything

but you know
better than most
living at your age,

perhaps even
those we're meant
to believe are more
worldly than us for
walking on earth
that little longer

because you have
breathed and raged
through it all despite
who's looking at you,

that spark will ignite
once again on terms
you will invent and
must believe in

then you will hear
the most beautiful
footsteps your ears
have ever heard.
