Perfect Silence

The edges of you are the outlines of
mountains against a western sky.

I kiss your highest peaks at dusk
but find life in the dark valley.

I am a drawn bow trembling at the edge of light.
Let your fingers now sealed with the promise of a diamond
steady me as the curtains part and
I enter your theater of perfect silence.

Author's Note
I wrote this imagining what my dear friend's husband might wish to say if he were a poet. It was inspired by a piece by EE Cummings. Their love is such an inspiration to me.
