When looking in your eyes

At the bus station
Friday
That day our eyes first caught
the others reflection
A grayish blue
was the hue

The compassion of one that runs
to pick up a fallen companion

Behind blue eyes though
We hide our shadows

If that which is concealed
for what ever the reason maybe
Can not be discarded
then surely it shall return
Howling
Haunting
creeping
Clawing at the very essence within

Over the years watching you battle
Through the trauma
the agony
the scars of decades old wounds

The question
always the same

Near the end of it all
Pleading with you
Please
Stop
Let it go
All this anger
this seething hatred
it's controlling you

Now all that remains
deep within those eyes
a dark shade
Kindness
Empathy
Understanding
Gone

The love all but faded
distant memories
washed down stream

A  monk once said if you don't cherish this
When it fails,  it will be on you

You are no Buddhist

We used to play out in the rain
