Perfect Poem

“Perfect Poem”

What do you want from me?
You want me to write you down
so you can be free eternally?

I will write you down
as you come to mind
and I will experience your power
in so doing I will find.

But it seems I am never quite satisfied.
It is never enough.
In writing you down
I am lacking that “stuff.”

The perfect poem.
I will never reach that goal.
Though you and I try
on many occasions
it is futile
and we both know it.

We have written some good ones
and some bad.
Some have been happy ones.
Some quite sad.

And though I will never stop striving
to write that “perfect you”
I do not expect to ever know a time
when you will come shining through.

Perfect poem just hear my call
and know that I am once again
trying to write of you although I know
I am doing so in vain.

Then when we walk within your worlds,
whatever in writing we discover
that we shall never know a place
such as this in any other.
