Born Free

All hail the born-free generation!
How blessed are we, that we were born free?

Our bodies are free but not our minds,
Our labor is free but not our thoughts,
Our tongues are free but not our lives,
Our legs they open them for free but not our hearts,
Our Oxygen is free but not our health,
Our stress is free but not our smiles,
Our votes are free but not our rights,
Our poverty is free but not our dreams,
Our scars are free but not our healing,
Our struggles are free but not our peace,
Our freedom is free but only in the minds of fools who cannot see
How each day we pay the price of being born free.

All hail the born-free generation!
How blessed are we that we were born free?

Our freedom comes at a price,
Feed the rich; Tax the poor twice,
Keep them on their knees
And let them pray for the cancellation of their fees,
Prey on their hopes and dreams,
Keep them in debt,
Sell them loans and fantasies,
Dreams of brighter days beyond the seas
Collect collateral even in their dreams,
Milk them for every penny
And make them pay for thinking a bright future can be free.

All hail the born-free generation!
How blessed are we that we were born free?

Free to hustle like flies and fleas,
Ready to take whatever shit we perceive to be easy and free,
As we bow low for a meal,
Like neo-slaves, we feel,
A dollar a day - a fate we cannot seal,
So we stoop low and start to steal,
Alibaba, at 40 and we can never be anything more than thieves,
They make us criminals,
We wear our hearts on our sleeves
Filled with fears of fines and not of the laws,
They legislate against survival on streets
Then throw us to the same streets,
What a twist!
And so it goes, “Let the hunger games begin”
Like cat and mouse so we play
And they pounce only when we scrap and find
A nut to nibble on for the night,
They make us pay tribute
And remind us our freedom comes only at a price.

All hail the born-free generation!
How blessed are we that we were born free?

We were born free
Only to claim we were born free,
Our oppression goes deeper than the Mariana Trench,
Our Black Judas was taught to kiss deeper than the French,
His betrayal has made it so hard,
For our generation to ascend and claim space at the top,
We are free not to lead but to support,
Not to command but to report,
Neither to protest nor to boycott,
Our lives are good for recreation, art and sport,
Play the game well and disappear like Spot,
And be another dot,
In this galaxy of infinite abductions and human rights violations,
We are free to be statistics and laughing stock behind closed doors,
We are free Jane and John Does
Stateless beings who do not identify with the land to which they were born,
We were born free to tear, sweat and bleed,
For as long as we live.
And what can we do except shout;

Ooh hell the born free generation
How blessed are we that we were born free?

Free to decide that we are not free and have never been.
