Vision of Mother
Tonight, when I opened your closet door,
you were standing there as solid as you ever were,
smiling with asking eyes.
“What shall I wear?” you asked.
You must have seen my eyes resting on your breasts.
Did you also see my longing as your image faded?
As I closed your door I remembered your nakedness
while waiting for cremation. Alone with you,
I covered your breasts with the poems of others
before you were reduced to ash.
you were standing there as solid as you ever were,
smiling with asking eyes.
