Daniel 9.26-27 Is NOT About The EndTime TRIB !!
Verse 26 says "the Messiah will be cut off."
Then the Roman army will "destroy the city and the sanctuary" (Jerusalem and the beautiful temple).
The explanation is that the Jewish leaders pressured the Romans into executing CHRIST !!
So God punished the Jews by bringing about the war with Rome,
which led to the destruction of Jerusalem and its temple.
Defeat in war is one of the several curses listed in Deuteronomy 28.15-68.
So the destroying of "the city and the sanctuary" by the Romans = a confirming of the curses in Deuteronomy 28.
But Deut. 28 is in "the Law of Moses," which is also known as "the Covenant."
So we can say the destruction of Jerusalem, etc, = the confirmation of the curses in "the Law" and "the Covenant" !!
Finally, by using shorthand, we can reduce the statement to these words:
The war which resulted in "the destruction of the city and the sanctuary" = the confirmation of the Covenant.
So when the next verse (verse 27) predicts that very thing ("the confirming of the Covenant"),
we can already know what that means !!
"The Covenant" is simply "the Law of Moses," the first 5 books of the Bible.
Which includes Deuteronomy, chapter 28 (with its curses).
Finally, the "week" in Dan.9.27 refers to 7 years.
Daniel is telling us how long the Roman-Jewish War will last.
Namely, 7 years.
That claim is verified by history. For Masada, the desert stronghold of the Jewish Zealots was captured in April of AD 73. And
mid 66 to mid 73 does add up to a full 7 years !!
So it is clear that the 7 years ("one week") in Dan.9.27 is NOT set in the EndTime !!
(The contrary opinions of Hal Lindsey, etc, etc not withstanding !!)
PS: Christ said four times, "I come QUICKLY"(Rev.3.11; 22.7,12,20). This means that once the TRIB begins, Christ will come QUICKLY from that point. And if He does indeed come just "5 months" after Russian Attack, that WOULD fulfill "coming QUICKLY," wouldn't it ??!!
