                             scarring

      “I show my scars so that others know they can heal.”
                                     ―Rhachelle Nicol

                              scared to be scarred
                              where pride has starred,
my bosom its incubator;
                              only to be lonely,
                              should you disown me,
husks left alone for later.

                              mock me or make me;
                              whose life is at stake? gee,
don’t make me find another!
                              more taxis are waiting
                              while you are abating:
i wonder why i bother.

                              charred to be cheered,
                              where caprice has jeered
the wisdom of my folly;
                              zeroed to be heroed
                              in time briefly borrowed;
now watch me fly, by golly!
