cradling the aftermath
two came feverishly together
words of hope glistening on starving lips
tangled up in blinding passion
souls intertwined
bodies alive with fire
they fervently merged
into one
as it sometimes does
time cooled their frenzied bliss
and the one least invested became restless
slipping silently from their embrace
while she in trust slumbered on
still bewitched & oblivious
loneliness crept in
and took his vacant place
broken is the newborn
left wailing in its cradle
the rhythm of its lifeblood
faltering & racing
desperately
hungrily seeking
absentee parent of love
and she who bears the weight
of grief & broken faith
rises from sodden sheets
wraps arms around broken heart
nurturing with all her strength
sheltering & healing the weeping wounds
of another shattered dream
left forsaken all too soon
abandoned so cruelly at birth
far too young to survive
another for the nursery of her haunted eyes
never to breathe
yet never to die
I love you
& your beautiful
pure heart, girl
