Inky Heart

My mind it wonders, of a better time,
when love was young, and you were mine.
I gave you half my heart to hold,
this ink runs deep my love you hold.

I still think back about that day,
when I first met you,
I couldn't look away.
you had me then, like you have me now
I knew right then, my heart was bound.

I ponder on our youthful days, the things we said the promises made
and it brings me PAIN,
like a knife wedged into my chest,
I can only look away at best
but blood seeps through, and so do you.

But I know well enough that I'm at fault,
My actions were thoughtless, a heedless assault,
I take ownership of the pain I've caused,
In the mirror of truth, I see my flaws.

I miss you so, but that time has past,
I must live with the blunders cast,
and though the memories sting and burn,
I'm happy to have loved a girl like her.
