I work in a Gray Collar job
It started out as a in-between move
Then became a career in Outside Sales
Wore a tie for first few years
Now 20 years later, jeans and a t-shirt
Always Black
Gray Collar means you're an Executive
But in a Blue Collar world
The collar color no matter
The usage of language paramount
It's a wholesale materials company
Every other word is FUCK
Not with the customers, inside staff only
It's some kind of lingo mantra
You gotta talk loud and act pissed off
Even if you're not
What the Fucks included

Author's Note
I only go to the office 4 times a year. Good thing too as it's a negatively festival. All cursing is between inside and outside sales guys. A lot of those guys act tough but it's an act. Would make a good sitcom.

I worked real White Collar for many years before I went Gray. A lot of cursing and fake bravado there too. I always thought being a Tug Boat Captain would be cool, less people or an ice cream truck...

I hear ya brother! And why is it that when a group of guys are together, it's like always "locker room" talk? I've learned to tame down what I say, and how it's said. But geesh, sometimes!
I have a white shirt job.... long sleeved t shirts! Lol. Blue jeans exclusively. Not a bad way to make a living!

I'm one of those self starter types. Nobody thought I'd last 6 months but I pretty much felt I could do it. Basically I told my bosses, give me a cell phone and expenses and stay out of my way. For the most part they did and it worked out for both of us. All that fuck talk is annoying. Mostly I'm saying it to myself or to make a statement when someone needs emotion from me. Guys are funny insecure creatures. Women smell better and treat me Kindly.

Dear PS,
I have a great appreciation for poems in this style. It lends itself to a peek inside the authors world of reality.
Work environments are wild sometimes and I always wonder how anything gets done. Somehow it must but I still wonder. BIG DIG this wrote.

Dear H,
I was torn between using Gray and Grey. Usually I go UK with Grey but went in the opposite direction this time.
Yes, my office could be written as a sitcom or a tragedy, not sure. It's chaos and logistics all day long and I'm not sure how it all works myself. But I sell stuff and they ship it and in-between lots of fuck talk and human stories.

Well, I learned something new, because I've never heard of "gray collar" jobs. But my boys are both working very blue-collar summer jobs, and the "fuck" usage definitely makes its way home with them!
As for me, I work with holy rollers. Quite certain I have the worst potty-mouth of the lot. I can keep up with my boys (and my daughter is worse than all of us). I have to watch myself in work meetings... 😉

Truth be told I made up the Gray Collar job. Seemed like a good in-between. Cursing is healthy but weird to my ear when done too much. But necessary in our throw away world.
