Every little girl doesn't get the the Cinderella story in real life, and it's a shame because they're all little princesses. But it not life that's cruel, it's the human animal and what harm we're willing to inflict upon each other. There is a sick predator that seeks out any and all that they think weaker. But we teach our little princesses to continue smiling although house of horrors isn't the promised castle high upon a hill. Tight work Lady

Even to carry the facade so long would gather strength, albeit indirectly.  Fortitude is what propels us forward, even if it's hiding behind a mask of self doubt.  Your character in here likely mimics your persona away from it.  Thus, you are incredible in total.

It took me years to shed some skins of not living up to expectations until one day recently, looking back, I decided I did pretty well.
It's easy to knock one's self as not living up to par but that means your listening to voices wishing you doom.  Where would we poets be without Honoria gracing our words.

A damsel in distress, especially if it's you, always brings out my inner Sir Galahad. If at some point in the next few weeks you hear the approaching sound of thundering hooves and then some bloke with an English accent on a white stallion scoops you up and carries you off to his castle in the mountains and a new life filled with sunshine and laughter, that'll be me. 🙃

Seriously, though, it's a great poem. Well done. My only criticism would be that once you'd introduced Iphigenia, a character from Greek mythology, it would have made the poem more consistent if you'd used another character from that mythology in the final section instead of leaving Greece and borrowing the Fairy Godmother from Fairyland. My own choice for your non-existent rescuer would have been Artemis, who saved Iphigenia at Aulis, or Orestes, who rescued her later on when she was at Tauris, thinking that things were never going to change.

Anyway, as I said, a great poem, and I only wish you'd post more often.

Duly noted as regards the godmother reference. Artemis played that role in my head. I wanted her to be the one to show clemency and take poor Iphigenia away from a father that would willingly sacrifice her as punishment for killing a stag. Alas…I can see how my thought process could be jumbled in the mix.
I’m really glad for your thoughts on this. It’s helped to clarify my own. But I’m still waiting for those thundering hooves and castle 😉
