Unexpected Grounding
The pulcan sang so sweetly
made connection with my heart
a song-line flowed discreetly
like a science hid in art
And subtly came vocations
completely off the wall
as meaning altercations
blew assumptions of the fall
Determining a journey
raises symbols in the air
as turning hurdy-gurdies
shoot baselines of despair
A strange felicitation
deals cards to play again
and pulcans find elation
as potential inks the pen.

Author's Note
Had an accident. 'A gift to reassess priorities in life' seems to be the best option to come to terms with it. I will have to grow into being a different person, hopefully a wiser one.
‘pulcan’ — a colourful mythical bird that came to me out of the dream-space very early one morning as the dawn chorus in the garden started; somewhere between a pelican and a falcon I guess.

I love the idea of mixing science with art, or vice versa.
A lovely read:)

Re: Re. Unexpected Grounding
Thank you MS, it seems to me that art without some science can easily be a meaningless sludge, and science without art tends towards the grey and the destructive. I think someone like Buckminster Fuller had the right mix. All the best, Josh.

seems like whatever befell you left you “bloody but unbowed” emotionally, but I hope you’re physically able to cope.

Re: Re. Unexpected Grounding
Physically recovering from broken rib(s) and nasty bruised ribcage {please don't make me laugh, sneeze or cough :) } this following on from 2 months of very painful sciatica. I've been sleeping in batches of 1-2 hours for 3 months - but it's fairly minor compared to other health/life challenges I can think of. It's strange, it could easily have been a lot worse, but wasn't - and this engenders a kind of exquisite thankfulness. Am now doing lots of reading and piano practice whilst watching the brambles take over the quinta/small-holding. RL√ Take care yourself Paul, Josh.

Paul said it best above Josh. Sorry to learn of the accident dear poet admired.
Amazing ink. Art.

Re: Re. Unexpected Grounding
Hello CF, nice to hear from you. RL appreciated. I guess it's winter where you are, so not too hot then? Here in Portugal we've been spared the mega-heat of Italy & Greece, probably because we're 50 odd miles from the Atlantic coast and get the westerlies. In fact in the 15 years I've been here, it's been gradually getting wetter-longer winters, and cooler in Summer - which is nice since our water supply comes from a well and and borehole. Hope you're doing o.k, Josh.

Re: Re. Unexpected Grounding
Thank you T for commenting, and the RL. I'm guessing a gradually growing 'boiled-frog' frustration with trying to rebalance life was not enough of an incentive to give the clarity needed to make a focussed change. Now the option-of-one is clear. And it requires a different mindset - where habitual ways of (less-than-helpful) thinking need to be transformed to their natural habitat and so can make a postive contribution to life, rather than fanning the flames of self-sabotage. At least. that's my take on it. Take care yourself too, all the best, Josh.

Hi MM, thanks for writing.
I'm getting better, just have to move slowly and carefully.
All the best, Josh.

Dear J,
The poem is lovely. I’d never heard of a pulcan and I found that very interesting to look that up. The rhyming was particularly awesome.
As for your accident I’m really sorry to hear about that! I hope you are, if not already better, at least continuing to mend. What a to do! Terrific write. Feel better quickly please! H🌷

Dear H,
how lovely to hear from you; and RL thankyou thankyou. I'm recovering well and managed to sleep throught the night the last few days - a great blessing I can tell you after 3 months of doing endlessly interrupted 'nightshifts'.
Meanwhile I'm busy relearning the piano (after a 50 year hiatus) since I can't do any work on the quinta/small-holding (apart from watch the brambles start to take over) -- and doing lots of reading too.
I hope you are doing o.k youself - I tend to worry about DUP's 'young people and their struggles' (I hope my wild imagination is out of order on this one).
Veronika has been working on a new project and will be posting something on DUP about it in a few days I think. I think you will be intrigued by it. (my lips are sealed).
All the best, Josh.
