Hey don’t be blaming the vets… if anything I’m a serial over-sharer in comments 😂

Although I’ve never been a comment counter (I mean… you either like me or you don’t) I can’t help but feel that social media has developed this “like” culture, where people can click a button, but they have this inability to explain WHY it is they like it.  

People always say that it’s their poetry that helps them to grow. I disagree — it’s commenting. It builds critical thinking. It develops a sense of style. It teaches us what we like and what we don’t like.  

I’d rather get two good comments where people actually said what they did and didn’t like about a piece or how it made them feel over “nice poem!” any day… that shit kills me.  

Viva la revolution.

I totally agree with your comment.
It's what people say about your writing that helps you grow as a poet.  I like when people take the time to tell me they had a visceral reaction to what I wrote.  Good or Bad.

 I was glad when the Web Mistress took on the RL madness.  There were some who used their avatar as some kind of stamp of approval and left no comments at all.  I call that "Billboarding".  The reading list is useful but needed to be reigned in and not used as a popularity tool. Hail to the Web Mistress on that subject.

This is the dawn of you and I commenting on each other. I took a chance.  I believe you had me blocked in your previous time here.
I never knew why, perhaps it was my content but you're back and I appreciate your comments.  I like your take no prisoners attitude.  I do the same.

Literally all my "trophies" in here are for top commenting.  I do try to stop by when I can.

But, too many writers in here are strictly just posting a write and then they're signing off.  I make a note of who doesn't at least say thanks if i leave them a comment.  I move on.
 Everyone should make an effort to interact somewhat.  It's proper.  

Plus, I admit that I use comments to keep track of some others, like a friendly reminder. It's an acknowledgement of sorts.  
I'm not here to actually critique anyone "for real".  I'm not qualified at all.  I just enjoy the camaraderie of writing.

Yeah, we speak the same language of manners.  Unfortunately in some realms manners might be fading fast.  Hope Ai doesn't take them away completely.  I try to read and comment frequently.  New and veteran writers.  We are a community with realism, fantasy and warts too.  Gotta take the good with the bad.   I publish my fuck bag reminders as part public service and part humor.  Baseball bats not allowed.

I hear you. I view it as a cavern of emerald. Where poets fill up the mines with poems. I am optimistic. There are theorys of expand and contract. Maybee it will expand again.

We are, after all, creatures of habit. I am not 'having a go' because you raise a valid point. Funny how some poets get 40+ comments though. A lot of poets from say a year ago bolted to other pastures so readership and comments are way down.  Those who remain like you or me are left to remind people that comments induce engagement and validation so do more or else this community will cease to exist.  I try to comment daily.  I'm on a self imposed writing sabbatical so you won't see my poems for awhile.  I'm still writing them and saving them but it will be mid July before I post my magic or vitriol again.  Hey I got 1900 plus poems already posted, you fuck bags won't go hungry just look back ...

Not sure what was going on around the beginning of the month but there was a lot of less activity all around, not just from comments but from submissions as well. It seems to be picking up now, but I'm glad you're the voice of reason to light a fire under asses.

As the unelected Sheriff and Mayor I take it upon myself to scold the flock.  It was death quiet for quite a while but I'm happy to see some familiar faces back.
