Too many times
I think of what you didn't say
and how I couldn't make you stay
you closed the door on all our plans
and found yourself a stranger's hand
you’ve made that choice so many times
they act the part but forget their lines
another stage and another play
but the city light still fade away
now you’re on your own again
back out with your old school friends
The costume that you always wear
will hide the mask you'll never share
the makeup sees into your fears
and all the lines of fallen years
I guess you'll say that you don't know
so should I let this summer go
or hold your hand
and take a chance
by the lake where the spotlights dance
by the lake where the moonlights dance
now you’re on your own again
back out with your old school friends
cause I know how it feels
when time wont let you heal
cause I know how it feels
when time wont let you heal
and you reach for something real
and you reach for something real
and you reach for something real
and how I couldn't make you stay
you closed the door on all our plans
and found yourself a stranger's hand
you’ve made that choice so many times
they act the part but forget their lines
another stage and another play
but the city light still fade away
now you’re on your own again
back out with your old school friends
The costume that you always wear
will hide the mask you'll never share
the makeup sees into your fears
and all the lines of fallen years
I guess you'll say that you don't know
so should I let this summer go
or hold your hand
and take a chance
by the lake where the spotlights dance
by the lake where the moonlights dance
now you’re on your own again
back out with your old school friends
cause I know how it feels
when time wont let you heal
cause I know how it feels
when time wont let you heal
and you reach for something real
and you reach for something real
and you reach for something real
