illness of my heart (i saw you in my dream part 3)

it feels like... a cooling summer
breeze, sifting its hands through
the threads of my hair
to watch your childlike ambling
from a broken pinpointed memory
you, stopping so graciously
amid your lifeless pasture
where the grass had long since
been trampled to death
to let the sunset be engulfed
as you surrender, kneeling down
to rest reposefully on your knees
a fragile barrier so easily surpassed
by the warmth of your breath
regretfully relieving the chill
flowing through my blooming spine
and i forgive you again
nostalgia replacing dying rage
as i watch flowers i've never seen
before, explode from your back
wrapping around your neck
to softy trail up to your face
resting in your lap like i had as a
child, growing so carefully into
your consciousness
and so carefully, you hold yourself
as one by one they begin to wilt
taking you with them
that same peace holds me as you
wither away, and by the time the
moon rose in full and the stars
settled, you were wholly gone
and so, goes the illness of my heart

Author's Note
this is final part of the really long poem, "i saw you in my dream," to me, acceptance is the most difficult stage of grief to process. it takes longer to reach acceptance than it does to dig your home in misery. to reach for something, that is something that feels too hard to do, as it means i have to look up. even if it's more painful to dig, digging is something that i've always done. but my promise is this: the burning in your eyes is worth more than digging a thousand holes. no matter how long it takes, one day you will go outside and notice that you've finally adjusted to the sunlight.
i hope you enjoyed reading...
a song that has inspired me lately: fading lights are fading.../ reign rebuilder (tail out) by set fire to flames.
