America A.D.
Divided in two halves of this paradigm
A coinciding reality
Whether descendants of God or an idol society
America comprised of grace and pride
Instigating it’s own division from inside
Once a refuge, once a economic power
Now to the gradual collapse of a Babylonian tower
A war of ideals symptomatic of spiritual decay
Departure from out of world truths, a far cry from the land of yesterday
Fighting the tide to break past the current for all that pulls against
As time dwindles in this count down, racing the clock for recompense
Redeem the times, motives are torn in two
When the empire seeks to build its own kingdom, are we pursuing happiness or You?
Taking my portion as I lay claim to what’s “mine”
A steward of the temporal, catalyst of the divine
Seek ye first as You say
As the world around me fades away
Interrogated by the threats of culture
That circle my dreams like a prey stocking vulture
Sins like sands in the hour glass of vindication
Squandering the inheritance of a failing nation
Learning to accept what I cannot control
As my interests are left at the mercy of the vulnerable
Everything is a sand castle when nothing is guaranteed
Still I work so hard towards an end captive to the will to be set free
Is it in this life or is death the key?
Tell me how to dream and give me vision to exact true liberty
Debts like taxes on breathing
And the cost of living on layaway
Trying to build a home for the end
Hopes carry on as grace is receding
Blueprints for tomorrow drawn up today
Is the fabric of this life too far gone to mend?
I end with a question I cannot answer all too soon
But I live beneath the weight of the uncertainty that dawns on me
Like a setting sun is light to foreshadow the moon
Reflecting on what I cannot see
Make a life but don’t make this life a home
When all is just a vain accomplishment to establish the burden of breath
We live together but we die alone
And all that really matters is what remains after death…
