We Were the Perfect Storm

We were never calm waters
We had passion that could move mountains
Words lost all meaning as we joined in a fury of hands ripping clothes and clawing skin
Our eyes communicated effortlessly the desires we both strived to satisfy
Soaked skin, soaked sheets and hearts soaked with regret for stolen and lost years
We attempted to soothe old wounds with the rhythm of our bodies
It was never quite enough
Ravenous for each other we paid no heed to all the red flags indicating that our situationship was only a substitute for raw need
It worked for a while
Until the novelty wore off and we realized that we were trying to recreate a past best left forgotten
I will always love what we had
I will never forget you
Thank you for some of the best times and the best of love
And thank you for teaching me that when a heart has moved on
The only substitute is my own
