Gnarled roots

In the night, as I lay in bed,
Both sweet dreams and nightmares tread,
One brings comfort, the other dread,
A swirling vortex in my head.

I dream of a world without despair,
One with love and justice everywhere,
Where all are equal, without a care,
And kindness flows like gentle air.

But nightmares come, with gnarled roots,
Twisted tendrils, like toxic shoots,
The darkness spreading, taking fruits,
Our society, collapsing, with no reboots.

I see division, hate, and fear,
Injustice reigning, far and near,
The future bleak, the end unclear,
The world we once knew, no longer here.

Yet still, I dream and hope and pray,
For a brighter future, a better way,
To root out the darkness and decay,
And build a world where love holds sway.

So let us keep dreaming, dear friend,
For in our dreams, new beginnings extend,
May they take root, grow and mend,
A new society, where love will ascend.
