Lost in Space - Titan

Walternate Universe Beta-2

I stood up looking in the middle of what was a hangar
Many large windows looked out into a very dark sky
The strange landscape seems hazy from the inside
While the giant planet and its rings loomed nearby

It’s quite a sight, one I could have only imagined
When the sudden realization finally came to mind
The engineers from Europa were supposed to send me home
Now I’m farther out and losing even more time

A giant rover appeared from behind a garage door
The driver looked bewildered when he saw me standing there
I waved my arms to get his attention right away
Then a fleet of other spacecrafts starting docking everywhere

“Who are you?” one of them asked approaching me
“He’s Europan” a female voice said noticing my suit
“Did you get authorization to come here?” another asked
Right away I thought I was going to get the boot

“There’s communication that an Alpha jumper was out there”
The man in charge said coming from behind the small crowd
“You must be him” he said “and you’re a long way from home
Or have you been completely disavowed”

“I’m not from Alpha” I said, “my designation is R-O-O”
I can tell some of the folks looked at each other very confused
“That’s pretty far behind” the man replied getting closer
“And now you’re up here” he said looking very amused

“How did you get here?” he asked now sounding serious
“I had an accidental jump and I guess I got lost in the mix
But the people over Europa were trying to help me”
“Europa?” one of them said “Oh those dudes are dicks”

“What’s your scheduled jump time?” the man in charge asked
“11:11pm” I said and they all looked at their space watches
“Well, you have another twenty three hours here until it opens
In the meantime we’ll fix that brace and take it up a couple of notches”

I was in awe of the place, looking out of the facility windows
I could see mountains and canyons and even an ocean
“Is that water?” I asked one of them thinking about alien life
“You don’t wanna swim in that” one said but I didn’t have any notion

“Is there life out here?” I finally dared to ask but they stayed silent
Until one of them came to me after they had worked on my brace
“Your world has a lot of work to do” one said “You’ll find a way”
But I could tell it was more disappointment in her face

“The brace is DNA coded and attached to your closest alternate
The facility south of Olympus will help you track him down”
“Olympus?” I asked wondering where they would be sending me
“Mars” she replied. To get you home you’ll make a stop in Mars”

As the portal opened I took one last look back at the icy world
I thought about how poets have used the stars as muses
How lucky of me, it’s not every day one gets to visit a moon
They gave me peace signs and in return I gave them deuces
