Castle

Misty fog sinking low
Above a watery meadow
Then terraced stone, gravel path
Old chestnut tree split in half
A buzzard swoops in wooded grove
Badger holes where they dug and rove
Wild garlic then autumn leaves
Summer shrubs and flowering trees
Cow parsley tall in the shade
Watching the sun start to fade
Ducking through the arched tunnel
Listen to birdsong sound so subtle
Summer fountain rainbow spray
Flower heads in wind that sway
Lead Glass reflecting strange shapes
Of past footsteps leading to fate
In courtyards, doors carved with saints
Watch gargoyles cling to crumbling stone
Above the widows of this ancestral home
Weeds rooted in cracks of lime mortar
Stone steps slippery in haphazard order
Sun setting in western haze
Last light sparks high tower ablaze
bastion in these troubled days
