Hey, it's Em-ily/ Cloven_Zonkle/ Neoma/ Etc)
Funny, i was just going to come on then slink away but i read your latest poem and it moved me to write you. What a coincidence! On Friday I'm getting baptized into that very Church of which you write (The "Mormons"). You see, books are all just books, and no religious truth is empirically, unassailably, "verifiable". The salient part of a religion is what occurs within the individual believer, interacting with whatever it is the believer constitutes to be their definition of, "belief." That is what matters. It is not a competition, and there is no reason to claim jealously one's own possession of an article or definition of faith, or to be angered about differences from one's own group or individual definition of worship. There is no "right" to exclusive possession of the definition of any religion to the exclusion of any other persons or groups possession of same, or alternate, aspects or definitions. Spirituality is spirituality. Humanity needs to be free to apply as many forms (and formulas) to religion as she wishes, and the only places where people do not have this right are those places which suffer under the yolk of tyranny.
Personally, love the theology, i love the gentleness I've met in the other members, the even-ness in the way discourse takes place among the members and between opposing political camps within the membership (yes, most Latter-day Saints are conservative, but there's a fair amount of progressive sentiment as well, and at the end of the day, it's a community of people united Together.
i love the openhandedness and the immense inner striving which i see, members conscientiously organized within their own selves to always try to honestly and wholeheartedly love everyone around themselves ever the more. All of this which i see takes place within the congregational community, and even within the community of the hierarchy. And all of this, i do love.
Do Latter-day Saints believe human beings are base, wretched, born-guilty creatures, or that any are deserving of despise? Generally no, because the theology, structurally, is prohibitive of that. Eve can be seen as a hero, the first human being to exercise agency in accordance with what Latter-day Saints see as God's genuine plan to allow humanity to Grow Up. And that to me is a sublime take on "the fall." Humanity, expected and encouraged by the Heavenly Father and the Heavenly Mother to seek to Fall Up, rather than down. Mormonism teaches that God's first wish for humanity was that we possess, and exercise, human agency, and that we use that agency to fulfill our full potentials as beings. I think that's a beautiful thought.
Are Mormons open to continued new revelations? Yes, and i see that as a strength as well, rather than a sin, because all culture changes, always, and civilization progresses (a simple look at 5000 years of recorded history, and the ways in which human individual and institutional bloodthirstyness reduces and diminishes even as organizational complexity increases over that spectrum of time will tell you that simply enough). Nothing is, or ever can, remain static, which accounts for continued revelation. They open themselves up to be able to adapt and grow from change. What a great blessing.
Latter-day Saints are one of hundreds of other religions in the world, and like every religion are in possession of unique doctrines and theologies all their own. And like most religious, they are genuinely desirous to share. It is also a religion which teaches a deep and fundamental respect for all other religions.
A recent Pew research poll found that when Americans in general are asked if they hold "favorable or unfavorable" opinions of a range of major world religions, Latter-day Saints (or Mormons, as the survey question put it) are considered more unfavorably by members of most other American religious than Muslims are (though not ny much), and are rated by members of other religions lower even than Atheists (again, not by much). Interestingly, broken down demographically, Latter-day Saints as a whole were the only religion (besides Muslims) in which a majority of members said they held favorable views of Muslims.
Overall, Mormons as a group were found ny the survey to be the most religiously tolerant, holding "favorable opinions towards," of all the religious groups polled.
Just food for thought.
Peace and Love, nothing more.

There's no other point but to eat dinner with the Hare Krishnas
All religion is ritual , there's no other reason. And all institutional religions, the way they are constituted and formulated today, are beyond their "sell-by" date. Hindu, Jew, Buddhist, Christian, Moslem, all the way down the line. It's time for them all to change. Demographics don't lie about their decline, but neither does History lie about humanity's yearning to experience communal spirituality together.

says Creation is an allowance within which humanity is expected to Grow Up, as is our purpose . That is a sublime and Eve is now seen as the hero of the You. That's where the line is starting to shift to in LSD culture. So there is potential there, at any rate. It's an open question whether the church (despite the conservative element within itself) can be swift enough on the "continued revelation" to rewrite not only its interpretations of its scriptures, but the scriptures themselves (first, second, and mormon testaments) toward pro-feminist, pro-lgbtq in order to stay culturally relevant 100 years from now (let alone, weather climate change will render everything moot anyway) but it's own internal rules do allow it to do such a thing if it determines it to be socially prudent, and the demographic ls if it's larger membership will allow it. Let us pray for the health of human thought and social-mores 300 years from today. "Today." We'll just see. My point is that their doctrine of continued revelation does allow that the, gasp!, very scriptures themselves can be rewritten. Translation, even "spiritual" translation (defined by orthodoxy as a statement directly dictated to a human being by a god) is known to contain "human error". This statement about translation, which seems so obvious, is a foundational part of the doctrines of the Mormon church. So very interesting, and i can see routes this body could take wherein the germination of real social potential is able to take place within its culture. But only after the rest of culture has already got there. Baby boomers, gen x, millennials, gensY&Z. Social scientists are recently beginning to signal a shift away from the stupid custom of assigning "generations," or at least, to begin to stretch them out into longer blocks, but at any rate, we all certainly have a long way to go. And though it's often bumpy, culture changes organically. The East face of Helicon. Mining the past to forge information to the future. It's all current.
In the meantime, for myself, any and all interaction i may ever do with any religious body is part of an age old ritual called: Of Self Actualization Nothing Other. There's no other point, other than to see the title of this piece.
To me books are all just books to begin with anyway. Overall, Mormons as a group same, or alternate, aspects or definitions..
