Casualties of Avarice

Fragments of contempt
Undulating as reverence
Defining our lives
O’ recreant parlour
Where the echelon secures their tenure
Lining their pockets
Succinct rapacity
Seething is the blood of innocence
stomping unto war
Laughing are the ancients
Leading our young to the slaughter
The callow
fixate
on the falsehoods
spewed by the liars
The misguided align
Consuming the lines
Absorbing their crimes
And when the dust settles
We are left
with nothing but
casualties
of
avarice

Resilience;
a victors medallion
Splayed abreast
Contesting
the naivety
of
virgin splendour
Merit worn on weathered faces
challenging the pride of the structure
Commitment
chiselled upon their hands
The warriors of truth

And when the masses unite
The hierarchy slivers
scurrying to redeem
their clutch
But the wise are unforgiving
And the wistful wept tears of impatience
while they watched
the formidable tower
crumble
into
history
